Boldt Castle

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share with you this beautiful place. It is the greatest love story of all time.

Boldt Castle in the 1000 Islands, NY. It is one of my most favorite places and after several years since my last visit, I got the opportunity to tour it again. I just LOVE it!! The Bridge Authority has been spending years restoring this beautiful castle and these pictures are the result of their hard work.

Here a few more pictures of the inside for your viewing pleasure:

Louise’s portrait (George Boldt’s wife and for whom the castle was being built.)

Louise died suddenly at age 42. Unfortunately, the castle was never finished and was left to deteriorate in the harsh NY winters and vandals.

Louise’s Bedroom

Who would not love a bedroom like this? It looks out onto the river.

This was Madison’s favorite room!

Dining Room

This was the original table designed for the castle. Isn’t it gorgeous!!

Original Wood Door

This is one of the original doors built on the castle. As you can see in the picture the hardware is hearts. This is one of the few left as some have been stolen over the years. So sad!

Entry Way

This is the entry way from the water. In 1904 the castle was deserted after the death of Louise until 1977 when the bridge authority took it over. They have been restoring the castle room by room. The pictures don’t do justice. It is beautiful. Even all the gardens on the grounds just take your breath away

A lot of the items in the castle were in storage while the castle was being built. Since the castle was never finished the items stayed in storage until the bridge authority began remodeling.

For instance, the large the large dining room table was originally bought for the castle by George Boldt in the early 1900’s. It never made it to the castle until the dining room was rebuilt by the bridge authority. This is the case with a lot of the items in the castle today which makes all the more intriguing to me.

If you ever get up to the 1000 Islands in New York make sure this magnificient castle is on your list to see. It is well worth it.

Here is a sneak peek of something I am working on that relates to the castle. Not sure when I will have it done but I thought I would make your mouths water a little in anticipation. You’ll be the first to see it when it is done.
